Lang Lang

SFL were very pleased to be chosen as the video contractor for the Lang Lang concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Heralded as the ‘hottest artist on the classical music planet’ by the New York Times, 27-year-old Lang Lang has played sold out recitals and concerts in every major city in the world. In 2008 over 5 billion people viewed his performance in Beijing’s opening ceremony for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and the following year he was named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people.

The concert was in the round and there was simply a piano in the middle of the arena floor. This was a classical concert so SFL needed to ensure that technology added to the experience and didn’t take away from the performance.

All technical elements had to be very discreet! 5x 12’ video screens were flow in the centre of the hall to ensure that everyone in the gallery could see what was happening. There were 3 cameras in total; 1 aerial viewpoint straight down, a side profile from the gallery and a very up close and personal HD lipstick cam shot of the keys. This was all mixed on SFL’s HD PPU. The event went extremely smoothly and Lang Lang is back in the hall for 2012.
