Sheffield Powerlifting Championships

The Sheffield Powerlifting Championships recently returned to the city’s historic City Hall, where athletes competed for world records, a coveted title and the largest prize fund in powerlifting history. Having delivered the lighting, audio and video solutions for the inaugural event in 2023, we were thrilled to be appointed by organisers SBD once again.

Launched in partnership with the International Powerlifting Federation, the high-profile event welcomes participating powerlifters and spectators from all over the world. The live event which was viewed by a 2000 in-person audience, was also streamed out via YouTube.

Our event production solutions included a 17m wide LED video wall, d&b audiotechnik system utilising Y-Series and V-Series and an array of lighting fixtures. Working closely with SBD, we helped enhance the competition with the design of custom resolution content to maximise the impact of the video wall.

A specific lighting design was required for the platform where the contestants competed, highlighting all the action. Beam effects were used to heighten athlete walk-up stings and light the stage in gold for winner presentations. Lighting colour schemes were also used to represent the flags of the different countries competing on the day.

Our Project Manager Luke Hance says: “As well as designing a full-service production solution to befit such a major international competition, we also provided internet distribution, delivering ample networking for multi-way comms and streaming. We were delighted with the feedback we received and the success of the event, which saw 51 world records being broken!”
