Blog – Variety is the spice of our events life

One of the many things our team loves about their roles is the variety of different experiences they bring. We’re honoured to work in some of the UK’s most iconic venues – infinitely versatile spaces that offer untold creative potential to be transformed for a broad range of event formats.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most prestigious and versatile of them all. We’re incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with this world-class venue, delivering all nature of creative and technical video solutions for their events.

And if variety is the spice of our events life, the Royal Albert Hall provides this in abundance! Last month alone, we delivered a multitude of different shows. We asked Sam Wheeler – one of our Account Managers to share a few highlights for an insight into the diversity a busy month at the venue offers…

International Ballroom Dancing Championships

In the heart of London, at the world’s most prominent stage, the world’s best Professional Ballroom and Latin American dancers competed with vigour to become International Dance Festival Champions!

This highly prestigious and glamorous evening continues to encapsulate the audience, attracting spectators from across the globe to one of London’s most elegant occasions.

We provided close-up action shots throughout the show, to ensure every seat in the house had an optimum view of the breathtaking dance performances. Our happy customer said: “Sam and SFL provided excellent service with slow motion replay Image magnification (iMAG) on two screens at the Royal Albert Hall for the International Dance Festival.”

As part of the Royal Albert Hall’s Engagement programme, the annual Future Makers concert showcases talented musicians aged 14-18 from across London. Following a rigorous audition process, seven acts were chosen to perform their own original music in front of a live audience, as well as a panel of industry professionals.

16-year-old Amity Miller was the winning act on the day and will receive a tailored package of support from the Royal Albert Hall and industry partners.

Yoshiki Classical

Japanese rockstar and composer Yoshiki made his Royal Albert Hall headline debut, marking his first UK appearance in over six years, as part of his latest world tour, REQUIEM.

Accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and special guests, including a surprise performance from Ellie Goulding, the concert celebrated the 10th anniversary of his beloved Yoshiki Classical album.

As a centrepiece to the stage set, we supplied a 10mm semi-transparent LED Wall, enhancing the musical performances with bespoke content and additional cameras for iMag of the performers. We also ran the Front of House video server and vision mix operation on our new Ross video equipped 4K PPU and our Panasonic UC-4000 camera channels.

Diana Ross

The global icon brought her Music Legacy Tour to the Hall for two nights only!

The spectacular set list featured iconic #1 chart toppers from throughout her solo career and as the lead singer of The Supremes – so unsurprisingly the show was a sell-out success.

Sam says: “We were particularly excited to work on this show as it was the perfect opportunity to debut our brand-new 3.9mm Infiled LED screen on Brompton processing, recently added to our inventory. It looked incredible and really captivated the audience for a bespoke film created to open the show, as well as a range of content to accompany the live performances.”

Jurassic Park in Concert

As part of the Royal Albert Hall’s Films in Concert series, the event celebrated the 30th anniversary of this classic film. We delivered our 18m screen truss screen with Barco Projection for the film to be projected in HD, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing John Williams’ iconic score live-to-picture.

A huge thanks, as always, goes out to our brilliant team who made this all possible, as well as everyone at the ever-supportive Royal Albert Hall and our wonderful customers. Thank you all for making our work such a pleasure and a privilege!
