The Project

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity brings the creative communications industry together every June, for a five-day programme. 2023 marked the 70th anniversary of the event.

For the past three years throughout the festival, we have proudly supported Jack Morton Worldwide, delivering 360° AV and Scenic production services for a dedicated central hub on behalf of a blue-chip corporate client at the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic.

The Brief

As a Cannes Lions 70 official partner, the end client required a dedicated venue for hosting its own programme of panel sessions, experiences, meetings and workshops. We were engaged to help transform the hotel into an extension of the client’s branding, culture, offices and meeting/presentation suites with demonstration zones for hosting customers.

In addition to the client facing areas, back-of-house spaces were also required for the client’s team to work, rest and be entertained. These areas included the provision of AV equipment, branded scenic pieces and custom furniture, such as sustainable kitchen units that could be re-used in future years.

The brief also called for a solution that minimised waste and enabled multiple use of items and materials wherever possible.

The Solution

We transformed the hotel in keeping with the corporate branding and colour schemes, using a variety of scenic elements. These ranged from custom-designed lightboxes and facias to vast feature walls up to 17m x 4m, and printed set backdrops with in-built screens and AV functionality.

With a focus on sustainable design, modular custom kitchen furniture was manufactured for local storage and re-use in future years, to maximise the lifespan of materials and return on investment.

We also built custom branded reception and accommodation desks, which adhered to the various requirements of the operational teams on site who serve the client and delegates across the week. These components were designed and built flatpack at our in-house Scenic Workshop in Reading, to occupy minimal space for ease of transportation, and to enable fast and efficient deployment on-site.

Across all spaces, we provided audio, video and lighting solutions to facilitate the presentation content and interactive spaces, utilising some of our latest investment in 4K video equipment and infrastructure. This included small to large-scale meeting rooms and VR/AR activations, as well as team spaces for working, socials and events. Some areas required a simpler plug and play approach to AV and were connected utilising wireless video technology. Features such as light boxes and branding to existing hotel cabinets and displays were used to reinforce the client’s visual identity and enhance the guest journey throughout the venue.

The Results

Sam Jacobs, Head of Account Management (EPS) comments: “We’re very proud to have been Jack Morton Worldwide’s supplier of choice for this project once again. It is a complex brief, with multiple layers that have to be executed seamlessly for complete transformation of the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic to represent the high-profile client’s brand identity. Drawing on the skills and expertise of several departments across SFL, we were delighted with the results and to have delivered solutions that the client can utilise in future years for this prestigious event.”
